Double Trouble and Atlantic Hearts - Woofing You a Happy Birthday

Welcome to both the Double Trouble Challenge and Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge!

The graphic for Double Trouble is below (please visit the site for detailed information) - and I am also playing along at Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge as I am a Design Team member, even though this isn't my "on" week.

I chose to create a card with a dog theme to accommodate the yo-yo challenge element at Double Trouble. That would be the "Walk the Dog" yo-yo element.

I stamped three dogs and masked the poodle in the middle so the others would appear behind her. They were coloured and I used coordinating colours for their collars and bows. I chose a colour scheme of red, yellow and blue and die cut the doggie images using an oval die. I pulled out some old papers for this card and they all worked well together. I added some gold embellishing thread behind the main image and I also stamped some dog prints to add along the sides of my card.

Come and join us at both Double Trouble and Atlantic Hearts and show us how you interpret this week's challenge.

You only have ONE WEEK to link up your project (until Sunday evening).

We can’t wait to see what you create!

Miss You Layered Flower Card

Once again, I joined a sketch challenge posted by a friend of mine on her Facebook page. I stayed fairly true to the sketch except I did change the bottom section slightly by adding a sentiment instead of placing my image on a shaped background.

The background was created using some alcohol inks. I did that a long time ago... this piece had been waiting to be used! I used a turquoise foil background and some pink glitter paper on which I placed the alcohol inked sections. I kept them in the same order so as to continue the pattern down the card.

The flowers and leaves were die cut and the flower petals were shaped. I added some seed beads in the center of the flower and then stamped the sentiment in two pieces. The last step was to add some dots using Liquid Pearls.

Products used are Close To My Heart unless otherwise indicated:

Paper: Ballerina Cardstock, Pixie Cardstock, Emerald Cardstock, Pink Glitter Paper, Nobel Peacock Foil Paper (SU), Neenah Solar White Cardstock, Vellum

Stamps: Happiness Lives Here Cardmaking

Inks: Alcohol Inks (misc.), Lagoon, Emerald

Accessories: 3-D Flower Thin Cuts, Petal Palette Dies (SU), Seed Beads, Ballerina Liquid Pearls

Vellum Embossed Inked Cards

I saw this gorgeous technique via a YouTube video... I believe the original creator of this card style was Mindy Eggen but I am not 100% sure of that.

The backgrounds were created using Distress Oxide inks and then splattered with white craft paint. The floral image is from the Hello Lovely stamp set. I don't have the die so I embossed the image on vellum (once in silver and once in gold) and fussy cut around it. The embossed images were adhered to the inked backgrounds. The only things added were a few small gems in the same colour as the embossing and a sentiment strip. I did use a ruler and a black marker to draw lines around the outside of the card to help bring more focus to the stamped sentiments.

Products used are Close To My Heart unless otherwise indicated:

Paper: White Daisy Cardstock, Vellum, Neenah Solar White Cardstock

Stamps: Wordfetti, Hello Lovely (Concord and 9th)

Inks: Archival Black, Distress Oxide Inks - Squeezed Lemonade, Twisted Citron, Cracked Pistachio, Salvaged Patina, Peacock Feathers, Salty Ocean

Accessories: White Craft Paint, Silver Glitter Gems, Gold Glitter Gems, Silver Embossing Powder, Gold Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, Black Journaling Pen

Stacked Animal Slimline Card

I have been playing with some small animal stamps and stacking the animals in a pyramid or just a  line. The animals here were simply stamped (stacked) upwards, making for a great slimline card!

I stamped and coloured all the animals first and then stamped the sentiment at the top. The "grass" was just ink added lightly to the bottom and a black journaling pen used to add some details. This was so easy and quick - love the effect.

Paper: White Daisy Cardstock, Lagoon Cardstock

Stamps: Punny Pals, Little Buddies

Inks: Intense Black, Fern

Slimline Card Blog Hop

Welcome to the Slimline Card Blog Hop!

Slimline cards have been very popular for some time now - and Close To My Heart offers some products specifically for that card size.

You should have arrived here from Brenda Lapp's blog. If you get lost along the way, a complete list of participants can be found on Melinda Everitt's blog

I wanted to create a card for a special friend. The woodgrain paper was a perfect setting for the flowers I used, which are from the stamp set Friendship is a Blessing. I stamped and coloured the flowers and then fussy cut them. The woodgrain background was cut into two stitched rectangles and the cross piece allows the gap there to be covered. I stamped the sentiment in two colours and die cut that piece along with a background using the Stitched Hexagon Thin Cuts. A few Gold Glitter Gems and some Gold Embellishing Thread was added. The last step was to brush the centres of the flowers and the flower lines with the Gold Shimmer Brush.

I hope you enjoyed my project.

The next blog on this hop is Show and Tell with Michelle. I'm sure she has something amazing to share with you!

Products used are all Close To My Heart:

Paper: Lovely Paper Pack, Woodgrain Paper Pack, White Daisy Cardstock, Black Cardstock, Ballerina Cardstock, Ballerina Glitter Paper, Slimline Cards and Envelopes

Stamps: Friendship is a Blessing

Inks: Intense Black, Green Apple

Accessories: Stitched Rectangle Thin Cuts, Stitched Hexagon Thin Cuts, Tri-Blend Markers, Gold Glitter Gems, Gold Embellishing Thread, Gold Shimmer Brush

Rainbow Full Front Shaker

I recently watched a terrific video by Shari Carroll and she showed how to make a full front shaker card. Most of the time, there is a border around the edge where the foam tape is needed to accommodate a shaker. This is a different approach...

I followed her idea to create my background. I used a stencil that I cut from the Cricut Artbooking collection (circles) and inked each row in one colour. I used a combination of Distress Inks and Distress Oxide Inks (DO Inks when I didn't have the correct colour in the other type). The circles were all inked using sponge daubers so they would be dark. I then used the same inks and blending brushes to add a lighter layer of ink around each row of circles. That piece was cut down to an A2 card size.

I cut a plastic sandwich bag a half inch larger than the card on each side. The back was adhered tightly to the back of the card and with one side open, I added a variety of sequins in the same colours I had used to ink the circles. The last side was sealed and the shaker was adhered to a card base. The sentiment was die cut four times in white and the background once in black and adhered together.

I just love the effect - it's so fun!

Products used are Close To My Heart unless otherwise indicated:

Paper: White Daisy Cardstock, Black Cardstock, Neenah Solar White Cardstock

Stamps: none

Inks: Distress/Distress Oxide Inks: Peacock Feathers, Blueprint Sketch, Wilted Violet, Candied Apple, Carved Pumpkin, Mustard Seed, Mowed Lawn

Hummingbird Slimline

I love shaker cards and this is a slimline shaker.

I started with a slimline stencil and created the background using three Distress Oxide inks. The shaker components were stamped, coloured and die cut or fussy cut (the hummingbirds and the flowers). They were mounted directly on the black cardstock behind the stencilled piece. I added some gold stars and iridescent flower sequins and then the stitched squares. I stamped and fussy cut two more flowers to go with the sentiment. I couldn't find a piece of cardstock the correct colour for under the sentiment so I used one of the Distress Oxide inks to create my own cardstock colour. A little bit of gold embellishing thread was added along with a few gold sequins. The lines on the flowers were brushed with the Gold Shimmer Brush.

Products used are Close To My Heart unless otherwise indicated:

Paper: White Daisy Cardstock, Black Cardstock, Cardstock from scrapbook.com, Slimline Cards and Envelopes

Stamps: Friendship is a Blessing, Kind Soul (W Plus 9), Hummingbird Thanks (PPP)

Inks: Intense Black, Archival Black, DO Inks - Mustard Seed, Spiced Marmalade, Abandoned Coral

AH 422 - Think of You Often

Welcome to Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge 422!

The sketch is shown in horizontal orientation - I rotated it by setting it up vertically but with everything still in the same location as on the sketch.

Gina K Designs just released a beautiful stamp, stencil and die set called A Little Hello. I was lucky enough to receive this product as part of a recent online event. There are three layering stencils and they allow you to create these gorgeous flowers and leaves. I die cut each of those and then embossed a sentiment in black on vellum to run across the bottom of my card. The papers are from the Hillside Cottage paper collection. I added a few gold gems, some gold embellishing thread and I also brushed the centres of the flowers with the Gold Shimmer Brush.

Come and join us at Atlantic Hearts and show us how you interpret the sketch shown above.

You have until Sunday evening to link up your project.

We can’t wait to see what you create!

Craft Roulette - Piggy Slimline

The Craft Roulette challenge always provides some interesting parameters which must be used to create your project.

This week, those parameters were as follows:

- slimline card (slimline card done)

- blue plus two (I used blue plus pink and yellow)

- critters (I used piggies)

- confetti (shaker filling is confetti)

The "These Little Piggies" stamp set is so cute - and that fit for the critter component. I stamped three of the piggies, coloured and fussy cut them. I also die cut some hearts from Ballerina cardstock. The frames for the shakers were die cut from some stitched squares and I added bright pink sequins inside each. This card came together pretty quick.

Check out Craft Roulette every Friday evening at 730pm ET on You Tube!

Rainbow Sunburst Cards

One of my favourite stencil sets is the sunburst layering stencils from Pink Fresh Studio. It's a series of three stencils and it is designed to leave open spots in the sunburst. You could create a single colour sunburst (with three shades) or do what I did and create a rainbow sunburst.

I used 24 (yes, 24!) different Distress Oxide inks to create my sunbursts. I separated them into 8 colour sections with 3 shades of each colour. I inked up the stencil in colour sections - 8 colours around each. The first stencil was inked with the lightest shade of each colour. Once the first stencil was finished, I moved to the second stencil and the medium shade colours. Finally, the third stencil was inked using the darkest shade of each colour. Those backgrounds took some time to dry.

In the meantime, I created the center sections. I stamped and embossed each of them (I made several of these cards but only two are shown here). The sentiments were embossed in either gold or black. They were die cut using basic and stitched circles. I added some gold embellishing thread behind each sentiment and added a few gold sequins to each card. The sunburst piece was adhered to each card using craft foam.

Products used are Close To My Heart unless otherwise indicated:

Paper: White Daisy Cardstock, Black Cardstock, Neenah Solar White Cardstock

Stamps: You Brighten My Day, Create with Heart

CD 445 - Clean and Simple Friendship Card

Welcome to Colour Dare Challenge 445!

This week, we have a grid for you but it's a little different. You need to to choose 4 blocks - they don't need to be in a line. Please note that black and white are free - other neutrals must come from the colours on the grid.

I don't make clean and simple cards very often and I really admire those who can create in that style.

I began with a stencil and masked off the right side of the card. The stencil was inked using three Distress Oxide inks. The other side was splattered using three coordinating shimmer brushes. Anyone who knows me knows that splattering anything creates a HUGE mess for me - the splatter ends up on everything near my project as well as way up my arms. Once the shimmer brush splatters were dry, I added the sentiment and a few enamel gems in the same colours as the stencilled petals.

Come and join us at Colour Dare and show us how you interpret the grid shown above.

You have two weeks to link up your project.

We can’t wait to see what you create!

Hoping Your Heart is Happy - Daisies

A friend of mine posts a sketch weekly on her Facebook page and I always like to play along. The sketch this week is shown below.

I rotated the sketch ninety degrees and the only size changes I made was to mount the squares (diamonds) and the side border on cardstock. I also used a smaller border around the paper on the card base.

The daisies were created using a 5 piece layering stencil and after that was die cut, I cut around several of the sections. I arranged the flowers and greenery how I wanted them and added some embellishing thread and sequins. The sentiment is two separate pieces - one part was embossed in gold on vellum and the second part was stamped in black ink on white cardstock. I also brushed the centres of the flowers with the Gold Shimmer Brush. I'm so pleased wth how this turned out!

Inked Background Cards

I recently watched a video by Gina from Gina K. Designs. She showed how to ink a background and then stamp on top of it. The effect is terrific and it creates a very clean looking card.

The first card (in greens) was inked with dye inks so I was able to stamp right away as those inks dry very fast.

The last two cards were inked using Distress Oxide inks. I learned quickly that stamping on wet ink does NOT work. I had to redo the blue card and then decided to do one in orange/red tones. One sentiment is stamped within the inked section and the other is just off the edge. I did decorate the inside of each card as well.

May/June New Product Blog Hop

Welcome to the New Product Blog Hop for the May/June catalog!

There will be several of the new products featured throughout this blog hop.

You should have arrived here from Aggie's Arrows of Hope Designs. If you get lost, a list of all participants can be found on Melinda Everitt's blog.

I have a feeling that the Sunburst Background Thin Cut that I used will be used by a lot of the blog hop participants... it is a great product! It cuts out the border but you are also left with the inner pieces from the sunburst.

My intention was to create ONE rainbow card but I quickly realized that I had to cut one sunburst for EVERY colour that I wanted to use. Rather than wasting all the remaining inside pieces, I decided to create 12 cards with the rainbow colours going around the card. I had to cut 12 black outlines to insert all the coloured pieces. That process was very time consuming and there are photos below to show the process as I had all the outlines lined up and began sorting the pieces. They weren't adhered until later.

I stamped 12 sentiments from the Spot-On Sentiments stamp set - one in each of the 12 rainbow colours. Those were adhered to the circles after being die cut with a circle die. I didn't add anything else to these cards - they are busy enough as they are!

On a side note, I had adhered all the rainbow pieces down and was waiting for the stamp set to arrive... I always have a drink on my desk - and it is always sealed - except this time. Of course, I knocked it over, right on top of the pile of 12 assembled cards! I moved awfully fast to dry them off and no major damage was done. I did have to cut off two fronts and place them on another card base but I was lucky. NO MORE drinks on my desk - ever.

I hope you enjoyed my project.

The next stop is Michelle Loncar's blog. I know she will share something terrific with you!

Products used are all Close To My Heart:

Try Stampin' on Tuesday Acetate Card

Welcome to this week's challenge at Try Stampin' on Tuesday!

This week, you have a choice - either the sketch or a card with a see through section. You can also do both if desired.

I decided to use both the sketch and the see through concept. The base of my card is made from a piece of acetate and patterned paper is adhered to both the front and back, allowing for an opening on the front. I did add paper on the back side of each section as well, just to cover the adhesive.

The yellow paper inside has a stamped message that shows through the front of the card. I added some shimmer trim along the edges and a few turquoise gems but kept the card simple.

Come and join us at TSOT and show us how you interpret the challenge shown above.

You have two weeks to link up your project.

We can’t wait to see what you create!

DT 84 - You are Beautiful!

Welcome to Double Trouble Challenge 84!

The week, the challenge is all about "girly stuff"... The small image is below but please visit the Double Trouble website for detailed information for this challenge.

Flowers - almost always a girly thing... I used a woodgrain background on which to set my stencilled wreath. After the wreath was stencilled (5 separate layering stencils), I stamped the outline and then die cut it. I cut it in half so I could place a sentiment piece between the two sections.

The woodgrain paper was mounted using thin foam tape on green and then pink cardstock. I brushed the flowers with the Clear Shimmer Brush and then added Stickles in the centre of each flower. Finally, some white sparkly gems were added around the card.

Come and join us at Double Trouble and show us how you interpret this challenge.

I am also linking my card with the Stinkin' Inkers challenge.

H2H - Love Your Crazy Side Diagonal Stripe Card

Welcome to this week's Heart 2 Heart challenge!

The theme this week is sponging. There are a lot of ways that sponging can be done - I chose to sponge the background of my card.

I started by using three widths of washi tape and masked off the entire card. I pulled every third piece off and sponged on the first colour. Those sections had to be covered and then the next sections were peeled off and sponged. Finally the last colour was done. I added a mixture of water and Perfect Pearls to the card to create a shimmery effect. That piece was die cut using the Stiched Rectangle Thin Cuts.

The sentiment was stamped and die cut. "I Love" was die cut in black and the other three sections were stamped in black on Lagoon cardstock. Those were also die cut and then a piece of twine was tied in a small bow and attached to the edge of each piece. I added some Black Bursts and a coloured sparkle in the centre of each one.

Come and join us at Heart 2 Heart and show us how you use sponging on your project.

You have until the end of May to link up your project.

We can’t wait to see what you create!

The cards have various sentiments and images on them - they make a great set of cards for various occasions.

Sunburst Card Set

I am really enjoying playing with the sunburst die from Close To My Heart. It cuts both the outside frame and all the inner pieces.

This set of cards was inspired by Jayma Malme - I loved her black and white cards with a pop of colour.

The frame was die cut in Black Glitter Paper and several pieces of black and white patterned paper were die cut as well. The patterned paper pieces gave me several frames and I used those to piece the cards together. The glitter paper was laid on top to provide a bit of dimension.

I cut six coloured daisies on my Cricut and brushed each of them with various Stickles. That preserves the 3-dimensional shape of the flowers even when placed in an envelope. I stamped various sentiments using the same colours as the flowers and after dovetailing the ends of each, I placed them so they were peeking out from under the flowers.

These were so much fun to create!

Products used are Close To My Heart unless otherwise indicated:

Paper: Various Black and White Patterned Papers, Black Glitter Paper, White Daisy Cardstock, Wisteria Cardstock, Lagoon Cardstock, Lemonade Cardstock, Carolina Cardstock, Raspberry Cardstock, Nectarine Cardstock, White Cards and Envelopes

Stamps; Card Captions, Flowers for You

Inks: Archival Black, Nectarine, Lagoon, Wisteria, Carolina, Raspberry

Accessories: Flower Market Cricut Collection, Various Stickles (not all CMTH), Sunburst Thin Cut
