Rub-Ons are Back!

I stumbled on a sheet of gorgeous rub-on images at my local scrapbook store and decided to try them out! I used rub-ons years ago but they have changed - these were so easy to transfer to cardstock.

The cards themselves are simple - just the images with some background papers and a bit of stamping or embossing. I added a foiled sentiment to each card but I wanted the images to be the focal points.

CD 529 - CAS Just Because Card

Welcome to Colour Dare Challenge 529!

Choose two of your favourite colours along with one metallic for this challenge.

I chose turquoise and blue plus silver.

I ink blended a narrow panel with two Distress Oxide inks and then splattered water on it. The images were embossed in black and that panel was adhered to a silver mat. The sentiment was die cut several times and stacked for dimension.

Come and join us at Colour Dare and show us how you interpret this week's challenge.

You have two weeks to link up your project.

We can’t wait to see what you create!

DT 128 - Flowers on Bricks

Welcome to Double Trouble Challenge 128!

It's the 5th week of the month so we have the Something, Anything, Everything challenge happening. The Thing 3 requirement (which is optional) is to use a stencil.

Since I am linking my card with the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge, I used the sketch below for the partner challenge.

The brick background was stencilled with two shades of grey ink. I die cut the flowers and leaves and arranged them on the cross pieces. A sentiment was tucked under the bottom flower and I added some purple gems around the card as well as silver Liquid Pearls to the centres of the flowers.

Come and join us at Double Trouble and show us how you interpret this challenge. I am also linking up my card with the challenge at Heart 2 Heart

You have until January 5 to link up your project. Please note that the start dates are Fridays at the moment... we will be back to Monday start dates in a bit.

We can’t wait to see what you create!

Pointed Herringbone Cards

These two cards were created using the same idea but I started each one a different way.

The herringbone pattern isn't hard to do. The first card was started along the side and toward to bottom at the centre point. I had a problem when I reached the top as the triangle at the very top is not centered (that bothers me...) For the second card, I started the pattern with the tiny triangle at the top and worked down from there. The alignment was better but it was hard to keep the pieces straight at the top since there wasn't a lot of real estate to work with! Either way, I used the same papers for both cards and altered the patterns as I worked. I added an ombre stamped sentiment for each and also stamped a few small images using two shades of ink for each image. The card fronts were adhered to white bases with craft foam and a few turquoise gems were added to each card.

Hugs Slimline

The Jeff Alpha die set from Pinkfresh Studio is such a terrific set - there are all the base letters plus shadow dies and they stack so easily together!

I die cut the letters from white cardstock and also an ombre holographic cardstock to spell HUGS. The letters were stacked and I added the shadow for each letter. I also die cut lots of floral images and I arranged those around the letters on an embossed piece of peach cardstock. I used the same holographic paper for the centres of the flowers and also added some iridescent gems around the card. The front was adhered to a piece of medium blue cardstock and then to a dark blue stitched base.

Border Flower and Leaf Cards

These two cards were created for a virtual crop event challenge.

I chose to make two cards - one with flowers and the second with leaves only. The images were stamped around the outside and I coloured only the bases of the images. On the leaf card, I brushed the white parts of the leaves with a clear shimmer brush. The sentiments were stamped toward the bottom and I matted each card front on black cardstock and then on a coordinating piece of coloured cardstock.

Stencilled Vellum Card

The front of this card was stencilled on vellum using Catherine Pooler inks. The ink colours are much lighter on vellum than they would be on cardstock.

I layered several die cuts on the back of the vellum to make it appear as if it is floating on the card front. The same shape die cut was used for the front of the card. I stamped a glacier image in grey and also stamped and die cut a polar bear. The clouds were stencilled and I added a sentiment at the bottom.

Embossed Vellum Cards - Florals

This is a technique that I copied from a Jennifer McGuire video. I was lucky enough to find the frame dies at a local scrapbook store a while ago.

I made all of these as floral cards with various sentiments. The concept is the same - the vellum was embossed and attached to the front frame. I die cut various images and inked most of them. The turquoise one was die cut using coloured cardstock. The sentiments were all hot foiled and I added various embellishments (metallic thread, gems or flat dots, Liquid Pearls) to each card.

Triple Easel Cards

I haven't made a triple easel card for many years... time to pull out the old files!

There are two of these cards - the first one was created using images and papers from a Gina K. Designs kit. The sentiment is the "block" at the bottom and the images are from the ephemera that came with the kit.

The second one is a birthday card. I chose papers with cakes, balloons and banners for a birthday celebration and stamped, coloured and fussy cut some small images. I hd a small birthday sentiment that I die cut for the front and I arranged the other images on the middle panel.

Floating Gatefold Panel Card

I found this cute card on a YouTube video by Dawn's Stamping Thoughts.

The centre panel floats in the middle of the card but it folds down to a standard A2 size for mailing.

I chose a series of green and brown papers and used a stamp and die set that I received from the latest Crop and Create event. The sunflowers and squirrels were stamped, coloured and die cut and I created a scene on the front panel. This card was remarkably easy to create and didn't take much time at all but I really like the effect. There is a panel on the back to write a message.

Leaf Pocket Card

This card is the result of a recent virtual event - it was a 30 minute card making stash and dash! Making a card - any card - in 30 minutes is a stretch, but this time, I made it! I actually finished just before the 30 minutes was up!

The parameters were as follows: pocket card, use orange, use a die/punch and include inking.

I used a criss-cross card to form the pocket for the card. The base was made from orange cardstock and I used blue patterned paper for the triangle pieces. The white cardstock inside was stamped with a birthday message, adhered to blue cardstock and I used orange and blue fine tip markers to draw a pattern around the outside. I also added a ribbon pull at the top of the insert.

I die cut some leaves from white cardstock and inked them in two shades of orange. I also die cut a couple of fir sprigs from vellum and attached them behind the leaves. A few dark blue enamel dots finished off the card.

Birthday in Woodgrain

I found a card similar to this one on Pinterest - no name attached so I don't know who to credit for the design.

The idea is simple - two stars cut from a square piece of patterned paper and then smaller stars cut from the first stars. I stamped a large greeting at the bottom and heat embossed a smaller greeting at the top. A few gems finished off this clean and simple card.

AH 504 - Just Because Wreath

Welcome to Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge 504!

I chose to create a "just because" card for this challenge.

I stencilled the background in lighter shades of ink than the die cuts I used. A piece of gold foil was added across the centre. I die cut several pieces for the wreath and assembled that. Since the sketch shows the wreath offset, I opted to cut just the edge of mine off the right side of my card. I added a gold bow and gold embellishments for the centres of the flowers and I brushed the lilac stems with a gold shimmer brush.

Come and join us at Atlantic Hearts and show us how you interpret this week's sketch.

Pink Floral Cards

I have two slimline dies that cut only one side of a pattern - I used them for these two cards.

The background of the first card was created by die cutting triangle strips and lining them up by alternating three shades of blue. The florals for both cards were die cut from pink and green and I inked the bases of the pieces to add some dimension. The sentiments for both cards were hot foiled in silver.

For the second card, I used the scalloped border die and cut several pieces. They were offset to create a kind of wave look for the background. The same florals were used on this card.

Inverted Crosses Masculine Birthday Card

I have always struggled with masculine cards and I know I am not alone!

I chose a colour scheme that I felt was more masculine in nature and die cut tons of pieces in five colours. The inverted crosses were assembled and adhered to a dark silver glitter paper front. That piece was adhered to a blue card base and I used the same blue cardstock to die cut a stitched oval on which to place the foiled sentiment. Some silver metallic thread and blue gems finished off this card.

CD 527 - Purple Poppies

Welcome to Colour Dare Challenge 527!

Choose at least three colours from the graphic shown below - metallics and neutrals are free to use.

I chose Wisteria, Sage and Pine.

This was a hard combination for me... just not my normal go-to colours.

I die cut all the flowers and leaves from both the light and dark sides of CTMH cardstock. I inked the darkest side of the Pine die cuts before adding them to the base leaf layers. For the flowers, I stamped a backgound design on the base of each piece and then added a vellum die cut over top to soften the look. The background was die cut with a stitched cover plate die and adhered to a silver base. I used silver elements for the flower centres and the embellishments. The sentiment was embossed in white and added at the bottom.

Thinking of You Flowers

This card was created for a sketch challenge that is run by a friend of mine. She posts a sketch every Saturday and you have a week to link up a project.

I chose to create a card with the sketch in vertical instead of horizontal orientation.

The peach cardstock was embossed with a 3D embossing folder and I added the two diagonal strips on top of that. In hindsight, I should have matted them to allow them to stand out more. The rectangle was die cut with a stitched die and matted with black. I inked around the edges with green ink and then added the stencilled flowers to the top. A sentiment was stamped on the lower part and I placed a few gold gems around the card. The darkest parts of the flowers were brushed with a gold shimmer brush and I added gold Stickles the centres of the flowers on the left side.

Leaf Card Set - Pink, Purple and Turquoise

This is a very unconventional colour combo for stencilled leaves... but I love it!

This is a set of six cards - two each of three designs. There is a different sentiment on each card. The leaves were stencilled using pink, purple and turquoise inks (plus a bit of grey). I die cut a handful of leaves from three shades of cardstock and placed them on top of a few of the leaves. One background was ink spattered. I stamped some of the sentiments in multiple shades of inks that I used for the stencilling, giving an ombre effect. This will make a simple holiday gift!

Sparkly Offset Flowers

I saw a card like this on the Newton's Nook blog and loved the idea.

The background was inked with Distress Oxide inks and then brushed with a clear glitter gel and set aside to dry. I die cut several flowers from a white card front and then stamped a sentiment in black. The individual flowers were shaped and then brushed with clear Stickles so they would hold their shape. Once the background was dry, the die cut front was adhered on top and I scattered the flowers around the die cut openings. A clear gem was placed in the centres of the flowers to finish off the card.

Sending Hugs in Purple and Silver

This is such a pretty card - I would love to make it in all the colours of the rainbow!

I die cut several floral and leaf pieces from silver foil and dark and light purple cardstock. The flowers and buds were inked to add more dimension before everything was assembled. The border was die cut and I embossed a piece of white cardstock and cut it using the same border die. The pieces were arranged on the embossed section and I arranged a clear stamp to stamp the sentiment along the line. I added a few purple enamel dots and brushed the flowers wth a clear shimmer brush.

Triple Time Stamping Card with Side Panels

I made a few these cards many years ago and saw them again when I was saving a pile of photos. I thought it would be neat to revisit the technique.

The first card was done in shades of blue. I ink blended blue ink on the three panels (as they were attached) and then stamped the images in black. The panels were separated and adhered to black mats and then to an embossed card front. I also added some dark blue ink around the edges of the embossed panel. Some clear gems finished off that card.

The second one was done in shades of yellow and orange. Same techniques and same stamps... just a different looking result.

YOU Fun Fold Card

I saw a picture of a card in this style and I wanted to figure out how to do it myself. The original artist had created one using a Cricut but I figured there had to be a way to do this using dies instead.

It took me a while to sort out the correct measurements (I often recycle printer paper for this purpose) and I built a prototype. Once I knew the sizes, I cut my background from white cardstock. I chose a busy patterned paper as I didn't want to have to stamp a pile of images to cover a lot of space. Then I went on the search for three letter words that would work for the three circles. I stamped all the flowers and leaves and die cut them, along with extra circles and the letters. The inside circles were also embossed with a dotted embossing folder. Once everything was cut and adhered, I added some tiny plastic flowers with bitty sparkles around the clusters. The card folds flat to a finished size of 51/2" x 51/2".

Woodgrain and Butterfly Card

I saw a card like this on Pinterest and loved the idea of rounding the corners of the squares.

I chose three shades of green cardstock and rounded the corners on opposite sides. They were adhered to a woodgrain paper. The leaf was die cut and I added some ink on top to bring out the embossed lines. The butterfly pieces were die cut from gold foil and from an extra piece of an alcohol inked background. The leaf stem and the butterfly were adhered on top of the squares. The sentiment was stamped at the bottom and I used craft foam to adhere the woodgrain paper to the card base.

Blue Panel Card

I have made this type of card before - the easiest way to describe it is to call it a panel card.

A friend of mine hosts a 30 minute card making stash and dash once a week - the goal is to create a card within 30 minutes. I haven't met that deadline yet (the time IS flexible) but this past week, I took well over an hour to create the card below.

The parameters were as follows: 1. accordion card, 2. monochromatic, 3. inking and 4. crafter's choice for embellishments.

I chose to use some alcohol inked patterned paper in shades of blue. I inked a piece of white cardstock using shades of blue and splattered it with water. Those pieces were cut for the inside small sections. I die cut leaves from vellum and added them to the inside panels as well as to the front. The sentiments were die cut from the inked piece and adhered to white shadows. I added a few silver gems and there is a white panel on the back to write a message.

Celebrate Card with Inside Pop-Up Feature

This sweet card has a nice surprise inside - a pop-up feature.

I lightly blended pink ink in the two opposite corners and used a stylus to dry emboss lines on all four sides of the front white panel. The gold die cut circle was adhered off centre and I used the same die to cut a piece of white cardstock and embossed it to go in the centre of the circle. The citrus blooms (previously stencilled and die cut) were arranged along the frame. A hot foiled sentiment, gold gems and metallic thread were added as well.

It took me a while to figure out the measurements for the inside pop-up but once that was done, everything fit together easily. I stamped a sentiment at the bottom and added more of the citrus blooms to the pop-up element.

TSOT 586 - Coneflower in Orange

Welcome to Try Stampin' on Tuesday Challenge 586!

The optional theme (in addition the sketch) is plaid.

I started by creating a blue ombre background with Distress Oxide inks and I splattered that with water. The white plaid background is a diamond die that I cut twice and offset just enough to create a plaid appearance - that was trimmed and adhered to a stitched rectangle. The flower and leaf pieces were inked with gradient shades of orange and green and then assembled. With the flower at the top, it left room for a sentiment at the bottom - that was embossed and adhered with thin foam tape. Some clear dew drops were added around the card.

Come and join us at TSOT and show us how you interpret the sketch shown above.

You have two weeks to link up your project.

We can't wait to see what you create!
