CD 463 - Thankful x2

Welcome to Colour Dare Challenge 463! 

We have a beautiful autumn image this week - you can select any colours from the image plus black and white. 

I created two cards - not intentionally - but the first one didn't turn out quite as I had expected... I will post both of them here. 

This is actually the second card that I made... I used a pattern from Make It From Your Heart Volume 4 (CTMH). The panels of patterned paper are from a variety of paper packs. I disassembled the packs where I only had 1 full sheet of paper or less and combined them into colour related packages. The cross piece was stamped on Linen cardstcok in two colours and adhered to green glitter paper. After the panels were adhered, I stamped a border around the edge as well. The flower was cut from an inked piece (using Distress Oxides) and a backing piece of Fern cardstock was placed behind the leaf. It looks like the veins are on top but they really are on the back. I added a fw sequins to finish off my card. 

The first card that I made is below. I used a birch tree background die and rather than cutting it, I embossed it onto Linen cardstock. I used the same colour ink to drag over the embossed image, separating the trees a little better. The trees along the bottom were masked and stamped on Linen cardstock and fussy cut at the top. I added some coordinating ink around the edges. A simple sentiment was stamped in two colours and added to the top.

Double Trouble 88 - Special Delivery

Welcome to Double Trouble Challenge 88! 

Babies, babies, babies... it's all about the little ones this week. The small graphic is below - please visit the Double Trouble challenge blog for more information.

I pulled out three old stamp sets for this challenge - I love the elephant with the balloons and that was perfect for a baby card. 

First, I went to my Cricut and cut a banner for the sentiment. I created a shadow for that piece as well. The card base was splattered with two shimmer brushes. The elephant and balloons were stamped, coloured and die cut . The side pieces had to be adjusted in size as I used a pattern from Make It From Your Heart Vol. 4 but the measurements were for a horizontal card. I also stamped some vine images on the Mint cardstock. The balloon lines were stamped after I had everything positioned - and after I had edited the card, I went back and drew in the lines so they met up with the edges of the elephant's trunk and the balloons as they looked funny to me.

Heart 2 Heart - Cherry Blossoms

Welcome to this week's Heart 2 Heart challenge! 

The theme this week is Old and New. You are to use some OLD products and some NEW products on your project. 

My NEW item is the Cherry Blossoms stamp set. It is such a pretty set of flowers and I used the largest branch on my card. The OLD is the paper - it is from the first Mix-In paper pack a couple of years ago. The soft pink patterns along with the black patterns made a great backdrop for the cherry blossoms. 

I stamped the floral image and only coloured along the shaded areas. I went back and added some darker pink with the Flamingo Shimmer Brush. The card pattern is from Make It From Your Herat - Vol.4. I stamped a sweet little sentiment at the bottom so as not to distract from the flowers.

CD 419 - Gnome Christmas

Welcome to Colour Dare Challenge #419!

We have a tic tac toe board this week - select a row, column or diagonal and use those colours in your project. You are welcome to add any other colours that are ON THE BOARD. Please note that black, white and grey are free to use. 

I have 4 different tac tac toes... left column (Glacier, Sapphire and Raspberry), bottom row (Raspberry, Evergreen, Clover) and both diagonals (Glacier, Gold, Clover and Flamingo, Gold and Raspberry. The only colours I didn't use were Blue Belle and Lilac.

I am still working on Christmas cards - and this was an opportunity to create another one!

I used the Gnome for Christmas stamp set for the gnome, the mushroom tree and the sentiment. I coloured the images using various colours on the board. The card design is from Make It From Your Heart - Vol. 4. I chose some patterned papers in Sapphire and Glacier and mounted them on a piece of Evergreen glitter paper. The images were adhered with foam tape and I added a few gold sequins and brushed some areas with the Gold Shimmer Brush.

H2H - Just Add Water

Welcome to this week's Heart 2 Heart challenge! 

The theme this week is "Just Add Water". That can take many forms - it can be a layout showcasing a water theme, a card with some sort of water element (watering flowers, rain boots, etc.) or it can involve a technique that uses water or something that looks like water (ex. Liquid Glass as raindrops). 

I chose to create a card using a technique I haven't used for a while. I used a piece of hard plastic (my acrylic blocks weren't large enough) to cover the entire card front. I used Sapphire and New England Ivy ink pads and randomly "stamped" in various places on the plastic. I spritzed the ink with water and flipped the plastic piece upside down (quickly). It created a neat background for my card. 

This card is based on a pattern from Make It From Your Heart Vol. 4. I used NE Ivy cardstock, a strip of the Timber patterned paper and some red shimmer trim to create the cross piece. I stamped the sentiment and the image and both were coloured and then die cut. They were backed with Sapphire cardstock and mounted using craft foam. I wrapped a piece of twine around the card and left a knot just beside the sentiment.

Double Trouble #60 - Something, Anything and Everything

It's the 5th Monday in the month and that means that there is a one week challenge at Double Trouble - a something, anything, everything challenge. 

If you are so inclined, one of the twists is to use red, white and blue on your project as it is Independence Day in the US. I'm not from the US but still managed to complete this task :) 

We also encourage you to link up up one or more of our previous challenge partners - the entire list with links can be found on the Double Trouble website. 

I chose to create a birthday card that is appropriate for a masculine birthday. It seems like whenever I need one of these cards, I always have to create it at the last minute. 

I began by creating my blue background by taping down a piece of watercolour paper and painting it blue. I then dropped small droplets of rubbing alcohol onto the painted surface. Just before it was dry, I used a paper towel to wipe across the surface, making the circles darker and the background lighter. If I had left it to dry on its own, the result would have been the opposite effect with the circles appearing lighter in colour.

My card design is based on a sketch from Make It From Your Heart - Vol. 4. I rotated the sketch 90 degrees and added my side piece and some banners. The sentiment was stamped on stitched circles and adhered to regular circles of cardstock. The word birthday was stamped and cut as a banner along with a piece of cardstock cut the same size - they were mounted slightly offset. I added 3 acrylic hearts and drew a border around the edge of the card to to finish it.

H2H - In Stitches

Welcome to this week's Heart 2 Heart challenge! 

We are looking for creative artists to join our design team - if this interests you, please see the information in the image below. 

The theme this week is In Stitches. Some sort of stitching is required on your project. It can be sewn stitching, stamped stitches, drawn stitches or you can use dies that have a stitched element to them. 

I chose to do the real thing and I dug out my sewing machine to stitch on elements of my card. I used a sketch from Make It From Your Heart - Volume 4 to create my card. 

The stamp set A Million Little Things contains gorgeous floral images. I masked the single flower and stamped it twice on my main piece. It was coloured and the flowers were brushed with the Clear Shimmer Brush. I then stitched two of the pieces with my sewing machine. There are also two stitched dies that are used on this card - the outer rectangle and the inner circle for the sentiment. I added a coordinating bow and a few enamel gems to finish off my card.

H2H - So Punny :)

Welcome to this week's Heart 2 Heart challenge!

The theme this week is "So Punny" - and puns are one of my favourite types of humour.

I chose to use a former Close To My Heart Hostess Reward stamp set to create my card. The stamp contains dozens of small animals and all the puns to go with each of them - I LOVE it! 

I used a pattern from Make It From Your Heart - Vol. 4 for the design of my card. Since the animals in the stamp set are all really small, I had to direct the attention to them... and using just a part of the card front was a good way to do that. I stamped the turtle three times and coloured them the same way. The bottom of the card is a collection of green patterned paper and the top of that row of banners was machine stitched. I also added a strip of Julep Glitter Paper just to cover the top of the banners. The turtles were adhered with foam tape and the pun was stamped below them on the right side. After all, they are TURTLE -ly awesome!

So Very Thankful...

I am really enjoying playing with alcohol inks, although I am just learning and am a beginner at this. The piece used on this card is one that was done using the inks, alcohol and a hairdryer. 

I used a card pattern from Make It From Your Heart Vol. 4 to create my card. I had to do some searching for cardstock that would match the ink design - had some old cardstock in my stash that fit very well. 

I stamped the image using Intense Black ink and then coloured it using a variety of markers. I brushed the flowers with the Clear Shimmer Brush. I intended to cut the sentiment using stitched rectangle dies but it was too large - I took the outline cut and trimmed the pieces in half and then attached them over the white stitched section. That made the sentiment a reasonable size. 

The alcohol inks I used were turquoise, pink and a silver mixative. The purple colour on that piece resulted from the turquoise and pink inks mixing together.

I chose to use both the stamp sets from this campaign (Eat Play Love - for dogs and 

Kitty Cuddles - for cats) plus the paper pack. Photos of each stamp set are below. 

I used Pattern #24 from Make It From Your Heart Vol. 4 (card patterns). I wanted to use the same pattern to create a dog card and cat card. 

The images were coloured using the Tri-Blend markers and mounted on Black cardstock. Some Silver Embellishing Thread was placed above each of the sentiments and I added some gems as well. The inside of each card is also decorated but I am not showing that here. I love how the papers are interchangeable - notice the fish on the cat card and the bones on the dog card. That's the same paper with a different pattern on each side, appropriate to either dogs or cats... although I suppose some cats play with bones and dogs would eat fish if given the chance :)

H2H - An Attitude of Gratitude

Welcome to this week's Heart 2 Heart Challenge!

It's all about gratitude this week - everyone has something for which to be thankful. Gratitude really is something that we should practice every single day because we are so very fortunate to live in a part of the world where there isn't war or other life threatening events happening day in and day out. In Canada, we celebrate Remembrance Day on November 11. It is a day to remember our veterans and those whose lives were lost in wars. It is such an important day...

I chose to create a card that isn't autumn related (considering it is autumn) but just a 

"thankful" card.

The trees were stamped (one was masked) using two colours - Evergreen and Green Apple. Some of them were stamped in second generation to give a lighter appearance. This card is from a pattern in the Make It From Your Heart - Vol. 4 book. It came together so easily after the trees were finished. A narrow ribbon and a few gold gems were added... done!

H2H - Sapphire Poinsettia

Welcome to this week's Heart 2 Heart challenge!

If you own a Cricut machine - or can use someone else's machine - this challenge is for you! It's all about the Cricut this week at Heart 2 Heart. 

Use your Cricut to create something - anything - for this challenge.

I love the Flower Market cartridge as it has so many flowers that can be changed and manipulated. I chose a poinsettia and by ungrouping the pieces and then copying and pasting the ones I wanted, I was able to create this beautiful poinsettia for my card. There are SO many possibilities with the Cricut - and now, Close To My Heart has brought back all of the retired cartridges again! 

I am THRILLED! I use images from those cartridges so often - it's great that they are back.

So - with some paper from the Every Little Thing paper pack, Sapphire cardstock (both front and back for the lighter colour on the reverse) and some Silver Glitter Paper, aside from shaping the flower, this card came together quickly. The pattern is from Make It From Your Heart - Vol. 4. I embossed the sentiment and used the Clear Shimmer Brush on the poinsettia petals.

Sorry for your Loss...

I don't like creating sympathy cards - I avoid making them and when I have to make one, it is always because I NEED one. This is one of those times. 

I chose the Know That I Care stamp set to create this card. I used a colour combination from the Love of Colour book of Pewter, Lilac and Sapphire. A large image was stamped all around the outside of the card and the flowers were stamped using a coordinating stamp. A blending pen was used for the leaves. I used the same stamp for the main image and coloured that using markers. The main image flowers were brushed with a clear shimmer brush. Some silver embellishing thread and sequins were added and this card was finished pretty quickly as it needs to be delivered today. 

It was based on a card from Make It From Your Heart - Volume 4. Nice and easy!

CD 341 - Watercolour Smooshing card

Welcome to this week's Colour Dare challenge! 

It's an inspiration photo... and one that is full of bold and bright colours. 

I chose to take some of the colours from the photo to develop my card. This ended up being interesting...

Using water-colour paints, I made sure that I had the correct colours to start - the right shades of the following colours: red, pink, purple, green and yellow. 

Based on the background of my design and the way the paint colours moved around once I applied the plastic wrap and mixed some of the colours, you would not even know that pink was used - and the shade of purple that I so painstakingly made sure was a match to the blanket colour looks more like a lighter shade of purple than what I started with, as does the green that I also mixed so carefully... So much for great ideas. I decided to leave it, though, because I like the way the background looked in the end. 

I added some red, yellow and green cardstock and a few embellishments to pull some of the colours from the background. The butterfly is also brushed with a shimmer brush.

Foxy Birthday

It's the beginning of the week and remarkably, I managed to carve out a bit of time this Monday morning to create a card for a challenge that I really enjoy - Double Trouble. They always have interesting components to make you think about how to combine everything into one challenge and get it all onto the same project. 

This particular challenge is about woodland creatures and wood pieces...

Double Trouble Part 1 is about creating a project with something that looks like or is made from wood - DONE.

Double Trouble Part 2 is to include a woodland creature - DONE

Double Trouble Part 3 is to link up your project with Cupcake Inspirations as their challenge is also about using a woodland creature - DONE 

So, here is my card for these two challenges...

I used an old stamp called Spring Critters for the fox and since I need a LOT of birthday cards in the next while, I gave the fox a birthday greeting. I went with a pink theme and splattered the background paper with ink. I placed random flowers and leaves around the sentiment and raised the entire sentiment piece with foam tape. For emphasis, I inked the edges of most of the papers. A few yellow sequins were added to the centres of the flowers. I used a pattern from Make it From Your Heart - Vol. 4 to create my card.

H2H - Spring Shaker Card

Welcome to this week's Heart 2 Heart challenge! 

This week, we are inviting you to create a project using your favourite sketch. You don't have to use Close To My Heart sketch resources - any sketch resources are fine. As a design team, we ARE using current Close To My Heart sketch resources so we cannot post the actual sketch for you as they are copyright protected but if you can post the sketch resource for us, that would be terrific! 

I chose to use a card sketch from Make It From Your Heart - Volume 4. I rotated the sketch 180 degrees and used a circle for the focal part instead of a rectangle because I wanted to use a shaker for my main image. The rotation fit my design better due to the sentiment location as well. Remember - sketches are starting points and as long as they can be identified, they do not have to be followed exactly.
