CD 375 - Colouring on Coloured Cardstock

Welcome to back to Colour Dare after a brief holiday break.

This week's challenge is all about the blues... the colour blue, that is! We welcome your projects that use blue and any neutrals.

I recently watched an awesome video regarding stamping on coloured cardstock and then colouring the background. Whatever cardstock colour is the base, that colour will show through. It works especially well with floral stamps.

I had a hard time finding a stamp that might work with this technique and finally settled on Hello Lovely from Concord and 9th. There has to be dead space between the images to be coloured black - otherwise this technique doesn't work very well.

I began with a piece of Carolina (blue) cardstock. I stamped the image and embossed it in white. Using a few black markers, I coloured all the empty spaces. After that, I went back with a couple of different shades of blue and coloured the leaves. The last step was to complete the flowers - the base colour of Carolina was left untouched. I just highlighted the base of each flower and tried to blend in the colours as best as I was able.

The sentiment was stamped on vellum using Sapphire pigment ink and embossed. The vellum was wrapped around the card to keep it in place. I added a few bitty pearls and some white dots on top of some of the stamped splatters.

Come and join us at Colour Dare and show us your project done in blue.
You have two weeks to link up your project.
We can’t wait to see what you create!

  4. What a fun technique! Your colouring of the flowers is gorgeous - I wouldn't know the black was coloured if I hadn't read it - nice job!
