Mini Double Diamond Fold Birthday Card

More time to play... and another interactive card!

This one is called a Double Diamond Fold card but I have made a different card by the same name so I am renaming it the MINI Double Diamond Fold card. A link to the blog post by Lisa Curcio is here and that also leads to her You Tube channel where there is a video to follow.

I used the beautiful plaid paper from the Daisy Meadows collection for the panels. The flower was stamped, coloured and die cut and the sentiment was stamped just below the centre of the diamond. I added a piece of white cardstock to the back of the diamond so there is a small place to write. Depending how tall the image you use (the flower in my case), this card can fit in a standard A2 envelope. I didn't want to add any bulky embellishments so I just used the Clear Shimmer Brush and some Stickles to add some sparkle to the flower.

Products used are all Close To My Heart:

Paper: Daisy Meadows Paper Collection, White Daisy Cardstock, Peacock Cardstock, Mint Cardstock, Canary Cardstock

Stamps: Daisy Meadows Scrapbooking, Flowers for You

Inks: Intense Black, Peacock

Accessories: Daisy Meadows Scrapbooking Stamp and Thin Cuts, Tri-Blend Markers, Clear Shimmer Brush, Diamond Stickles, Thin Foam Tape

Butterfly Circle Birthday Card (Slimline)

This card has an interesting story... I purchased a slimline circle die (the background) and cut it out a few days ago. I didn't realize that the die has no outside border - none. It only cuts the circles! I cut 4 of them - one in white and the other three in shades of turquoise to use for the background. I used a separate stitched rectangle die to cut around the white circle piece.

Using the little circles, I placed them in all the openings in a repeating pattern. That piece was then mounted on a few other rectangles, all die cut.

The butterfly is from a set of dies that will be available through Close To My Heart as of May 1 - they are stunning! There are two sizes and the one seen here is the large one. I die cut the background and then the second die twice - once in Lagoon cardstock and a second time from holographic paper. I paper pieced the holographic paper inside the second die cut to give a shiny effect.

The butterfly was mounted on the card front and I added a narrow birthday sentiment. Much work - but so worth it!

Slimline Inked Cards

Quite a while ago, I posted a card similar to these ones... I created this card in a video and I made a big oops! I had a background already prepared (the Distress Oxide front and the glitter gel white back piece) and I went to turn it into a shaker. I adhered all the foam tape to the back of the inked piece, only to discover that I forgot to put a piece of acetate underneath the tape! Such is life... so I ended up with a couple of extra card fronts to use!

One of these is a shaker and the other is not (the result of my error). Both have a background that was painted with Moondust Glitter Gel to provide some shine. I stamped the flower and the sentiment, adding colour with markers and the Flamingo Shimmer Brush. The lines of the floral image were brushed with the Clear Shimmer Brush. I added some Gold Embellishing Thread to one of the cards.

Products used are Close To My Heart unless otherwise indicated:

Paper: White Daisy Cardstock, Flamingo Cardstock, Lagoon Cardstock, Slimline Cards and Envelopes

My Precious Doggie - I Love You!

This layout was CASEd from a beautiful layout created by Jennifer Smith, a fellow CTMH Maker. Her layout was 8.5 x 11 and I adjusted the sizes to make mine a 12 x 12 layout instead.

I don't get very many photos of my dog looking at me. She doesn't like the camera for some reason and as soon as she sees anything pointed her way, she looks away. This was a lucky shot - and it's such a great picture of her.

I used the Mix-In paper pack for the strips and used the front and back sides of the papers. A stencil was used along with the Peacock Shimmer Brush to create the circles around the edges. I inked all the edges of the strips, the white base and the woodgrain background with Charcoal ink as black was a little darker than I wanted. The title and the daisies were all Cricut cut and I brushed the centre of each of the daisies with the Clear Shimmer Brush. I love the end result!

Products used are Close To My Heart unless otherwise indicated:

Paper: Mix-In Paper Pack, Wood Textures Paper Pack (Craft Consortium), White Daisy Cardstock, Glacier Cardstock, Peacock Cardstock, Sundance Cardstock

Stamps: none

Inks: Charcoal, Glacier

Accessories: Circuit - Artbooking Collection, Flower Market Collection, Art Philosophy Collection, Stencil Pack 3, Peacock Shimmer Brush, Clear Shimmer Brush, Foam Tape

AH 418 - Hello Sweet Friend

Welcome to Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge 418!

This sketch has several layers to it - I love those kinds of challenges!

I chose a woodgrain paper for the background and mounted that on black cardstock, The rectangular panel was die cut using a stitched rectangle die and mounted on craft foam. The top panel of Mink cardstock was also die cut using a scalloped bracket die. I stamped the flower and leaves using three shades of purple and green inks. The sentiment was die cut in a shade of green that is very close to the colour of the leaves. I stamped the small part of the sentiment using one of the same inks used on the flower. Finally, the flower was brushed with the Clear Shimmer Brush and a few clear sparkles were added.

Come and join us at Atlantic Hearts and show us how you interpret the sketch shown above.

Daisy Wreath Cards

There are several layering stencils on the market now and and one of my favourites is this set that creates a gorgeous daisy wreath! How can you not just love these results?

The first three cards are have a full stencilled background. The wreath was placed on top and a piece of vellum was die cut in the same size circle as the opening inside the wreath. A sentiment was embossed in white and placed behind the wreath. I added a second die cut wreath under the top one to ensure that the vellum was hidden around the edges. The top wreath image was mounted on thin foam tape and adhered to the top. Depending on the colour scheme, some gold or silver sequins were added around each image.

The last card is a little different... The background is stencilled only as far as the floral design, which is the wreath image cut into pieces. I embossed a sentiment in gold and added it to the top. A few gold sequins were added around the card.

Products used are Close To My Heart unless otherwise indicated:

Paper: White Daisy Cardstock, Black Cardstock, Pebble Cardstock, Pewter Cardstock, Vellum, Neenah Solar White Cardstock

Stamps: Friend (Photoplay), Wreath Builder (Gina K Designs), Greetings Mix 2 (SSS)

Colour Dare 441 - Just Because Wild Roses

Welcome to Colour Dare Challenge 441!

It's another tic-tac-toe board this week... please use ONLY the colours on the board and the neutrals that are identified (not all neutrals are included).

I used Glacier, Lagoon and Nectarine to form my diagonal line and also used Almond, Lemonade and Toffee (so another tic-tac-toe with the second row on the grid).

I began by stencilling a vine image using Glacier and Almond inks. That piece was adhered to Toffee cardstock and then to Glacier cardstock before being attached to the card base. The flowers and leaves were stamped, die cut and coloured in orange (Nectarine), Glacier and Lagoon. I added some clear sparkles to the centres of the flowers and coloured them with a yellow marker. The flower centres were also brushed with the Clear Shimmer Brush. The sentiment was stamped with Black pigment ink on vellum and heat embossed.

Come and join us at Colour Dare and show us your tic-tac-toe using the grid shown above.

You have two weeks to link up your project.

We can’t wait to see what you create!

Stencilled Vellum Card

I was watching a video by Gina Krupsky from Gina K Designs and she showed how to stencil on vellum. I just used regular dye ink but the vellum did need to be heat set for the ink to stay put. The vellum was layered with the inked side at the back so as to provide a softer appearance. A second stencil was used to ink a second piece of vellum and that was attached to the back of the lattice die cut so the vellum pieces could be separated by a thin later of foam tape.

The lattice die isn't one I would use for this again - the holes reflect the paper behind and since that is a mix of vellum, it wasn't the best choice. I just cut the oval glitter insert to be large enough to fit inside the largest oval, not to cover the entire back of the lattice piece. That is why all the little gems are on the front!

Products used are Close To My Heart unless otherwise indicated:

Paper: French Vanilla Cardstock, Desert Rose Cardstock, Desert Rose Glitter Paper, Vellum, Neenah Solar White Cardstock

Stamps: Heartfelt Sentiments (Altenew)

Inks: Blue Belle, Desert Rose

Accessories: Lattice Background Thin Cut, Nestabilities Oval Dies, Blue Belle Glitter Gems, Garden Stencil (Tim Holtz), Misc. Hole Stencil (unknown), Thin Foam Tape

Cards using Scraps

There are so many great ideas to be found on Facebook and Pinterest these days. One of those ideas is using scraps - and we ALL have tons of scraps if we work with paper! I know my scraps can become overwhelming and I periodically clean them out, recycling the small pieces that I just won't use. I do find it hard to recycle patterned paper... so this is a great option for those pieces.

This card was created using all patterned papers for the background. I gathered a bunch of patterns in the same colours (black and white in this case) and cut them 1 inch wide and approx. 5-6 inches tall. I cut all the pieces on the long diagonal and all at different angles. I arranged them how I wanted them and then using another scrap piece of cardstock cut slightly smaller than an A2 size, I covered that with dry adhesive. The diagonal pieces were simple placed on top of that cardstock piece and trimmed along the edge when the entire piece was covered. That was mounted on a card base and I added a coloured flower and a sentiment.  Easy - and a great way to use up some scrap papers!

Here is a second card using a different colour scheme.

Products used are all Close To My Heart:

Paper: Misc. Patterned Papers, Canary Cardstock, Glacier. Cardstock, White Daisy Cardstock, White Card Base

Stamps: Every Bit of Wonderful

Inks: Intense Black

TSOT 503 - Daisy Flap Card

Welcome to this week's Try Stampin' on Tuesday sketch challenge!

The theme (in addition to the sketch) is April Showers.

I didn't use the additional theme and I took some liberties with the sketch. The vertical lines on my card are moved toward the edges rather than in the centre to accommodate the flap card that I created.

The collage shows the three different views of this card. The flap opens on the front to reveal a smaller section and then the entire card opens to allow a space to write a message.

The Daisy Meadows paper pack was perfect for this card. I used the Daisy Meadows Scrapbbooking stamp set with thin cuts to create the flowers and leaves. The flowers on the front were stamped and die cut. On the inside, I masked the flowers to create some depth. I purposely kept the flowers white and used a light grey marker to add some shading. The front flip piece was mounted on a scalloped circle die.

Come and join us at TSOT and show us how you interpret the sketch shown above.

Doiuble Trouble 82 - Stencilled Floral Card

Welcome to Double Trouble Challenge #82!

The small graphic is below - for complete details, please visit the Double Trouble Challenge Blog.

This week, the main expectation is to include some sort of florals on your project. I have a few sets of layering stencils and the one I used here is one of my favourites. There are 5 stencils in total and they allow layers of colours to be added in steps. I used the colour scheme provided by our challenge partner, Make the Cards.

The flowers and leaves were all inked using the stencil. I die cut that piece using a stitched rectangle die and then mounted it on Raspberry cardstock and then onto the card base. The sentiment was die cut using vellum for the bottom layer and pink glitter paper for the letters. I coloured a few white gems using a turquoise marker and also brushed the center flower sections with the Clear Shimmer Brush.

Come and join us at Double Trouble and show us how you interpret the expectations for this challenge.

You have two weeks to link up your project.

I am also linking up my card with Make the Cards challenge

Heart 2 Heart - Cherry Blossoms

Welcome to this week's Heart 2 Heart challenge!

The theme this week is Old and New. You are to use some OLD products and some NEW products on your project.

My NEW item is the Cherry Blossoms stamp set. It is such a pretty set of flowers and I used the largest branch on my card. The OLD is the paper - it is from the first Mix-In paper pack a couple of years ago. The soft pink patterns along with the black patterns made a great backdrop for the cherry blossoms.

I stamped the floral image and only coloured along the shaded areas. I went back and added some darker pink with the Flamingo Shimmer Brush. The card pattern is from Make It From Your Herat - Vol.4. I stamped a sweet little sentiment at the bottom so as not to distract from the flowers.

Come and join us at Heart 2 Heart and show us how you interpret this week's challenge.

You have until the end of April to link up your project.

We can’t wait to see what you create!

Butterfly Acetate Card

I recently saw this technique in a Facebook group and I cannot recall who designed it... otherwise, I would definitely provide credit to that individual.

This card has an acetate insert that allows it to appear like the butterflies are almost floating. It's such a neat technique! I coloured the butterflies and brushed them with the Clear Shimmer Brush to add some shimmer.

Products used are Close To My Heart unless otherwise indicated:

Paper: Mix-In Paper Pack, White Daisy Cardstock, Bluebird Cardstock, Neenah Solar White Cardstock, Acetate

Stamps: Daisy Meadows Scrapbooking, Flowers for You, Butterflies for You

Hoping Your Heart is Happy

This is one of those cards just for fun!

I have some layering stencils and absolutely love them - they honestly make it appear like I can colour, which is not a strength for me. This image was created using a series of 5 stencils and 5 colours of Distress Oxide inks. The last flower layer was inked and then I added some Moondust Glitter Gel on top to add some shine. The image was die cut and some silver embellishing thread was attached around the edges. The sentiment was stamped in two of the same colours used on the flowers and mounted on the same blue background paper. I embossed the black background and offset it from the blue background piece. A few glitter gems were added to finish off the card.

Products used are Close To My Heart unless otherwise indicated:

Paper: White Cardstock, Black Cardstock, Blue Paper from scrapbook com, Neenah Solar White Cardstock

Stamps: Choose Hope (Pink Fresh Studios)

Inks: All Distress Oxides - Spun Sugar, Kitsch Flamingo, Picked Raspberry, Tumbled Glass, Peacock Feathers

Accessories: Choose Hope Die and Layering Stencils (Pink Fresh Studios), Chevron Embossing Folder, Moondust Glitter Gel, Silver Embellishing Thread, Silver Glitter Gems

Stamptacular Blog Hop

Welcome to the Stamptacular Blog Hop! So many stamps and thin cuts are on sale this month and several Makers will show you a selection of those items in this blog hop.

You should have arrived here from Michelle Stewart's blog. If you get lost, a complete list of participants can be found on Melinda Everitt's blog

I haven't used a lot of the background stamps lately but this was a good reason to pull out one of them! The Floral Details and Background stamp s a beautiful stamp that provides a card front. I wanted to do something a little different so I turned it into a full front shaker card.

The front is a complete shaker that sits over the stamped image. It opens on its own to reveal what can be seen through the acetate. I stamped some images on circles to match up with the inside of the card. A circle on the back of the acetate was required to cover the adhesive. The shaker component was filled with Silver Loose Sequins and Iridescent Flower Confetti.

The inside has the floral image stamped and coloured with markers. I added some Silver Stickles to parts of the flowers and I brushed all the flower lines with the Clear Shimmer Brush.

Since a spot was needed to write a message, I also decorated the back by stamping and colouring small images and drawing lines to join them together.

I hope you enjoyed my card.

The next blog on this hop is Haley Dyer's blog. I'm sure she has something terrific to show you!

Products used are Close To My Heart unless otherwise indicated:

Paper: White Daisy Cardstock, Green Apple Cardsotck, Flamingo Cardstock, Grape Cardstock

AH 416 - Hello Sweet Friend

Welcome to Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge 416!

The sketch is shown in horizontal format and I decided to create my card in that same format.

I started by using a three part layering stencil to create the flowers and leaves. I love how the mix of colours is only applied to specific areas with the stencils. The flowers and leaves were then die cut, along with the word "hello". I stamped "sweet friend" and mounted it on Peacock cardstock to match the rest of the paper. The papers were cut to be the same height and a piece of Coral Shimmer Trim was added in the center. The sentiment and flowers were mounted on foam tape and a few Peach coloured gems were added to the top section. The flowers and some leaves were also brushed with the Clear Shimmer Brush.

Come and join us at Atlantic Hearts and show us how you interpret the sketch shown above.

Cherry Blossoms Note...

A friend of mine posted a sketch on her FB page and I decided to participate.

The sketch was very specific regarding sizes and placement of shapes. I am used to taking liberties with sketches but that wasn't an option with this one.

I wanted to use a bright colour combined with woodgrain. The floral image was stamped and coloured and the background paper was selected to match the marker colour. That was embossed and mounted on a black background as the other mats were also black. I stamped a sentiment on vellum and embossed it with white powder. A few black enamel dots were added and I brushed the flowers with the Clear Shimmer Brush.

CD 439 - Sock is Sliding Off...

Welcome to Colour Dare Challenge 439!

This week, it is a limited colour palette but I love these challenges as they really make me think!

I began by stamping the leaf outlines using my stamp press. I wanted them all around the center section. I went back and stamped the solid image using Carolina ink and a touch of Bluebird on the ends of the leaves. The sentiment was stamped in black in the centre. I turned this into a shaker and added some clear sequins as well as blue ones in the same shades as the inks.

Come and join us at Colour Dare and show us how you use the colour palette shown above.

You have two weeks to link up your project.

TSOT - Birthday Shaker

Welcome to Try Stampin' on Tuesday Challenge 501!

The theme in addition to the sketch is birthday.

I began by creating an ombre background using Distress Oxide inks. A panel of blue cardstock was added diagonally across the background piece. I chose a bright yellow background for the shaker and stamped several birthday related images on that piece. I coloured them with various blue markers (the yellow background often makes the blue colour turn a greenish shade). I added some sequins and then placed the sentiment on the front of the shaker.

Come and join us at TSOT and show us how you interpret the sketch shown above.

H2H - What's Your Angle?

Welcome to this week's Heart 2 Heart challenge!

It's all about angles this week - specifically diagonal angles.

I began by creating a mixed coloured background using Distress Oxide inks. I placed a circle stencil on top of that and brushed over it with Moon Dust Glitter Gel, giving it a glittery effect. Once that piece was dry, I created a shaker on top and added some coordinating cardstock diagonal stripes. The finally touch was to add the Hugs sentiment.

Come and join us at H2H and show us how you interpret the angle challenge.

You have until the end of April to link up your project.

Double Trouble 81 - Mountain Scene

Welcome to Double Trouble Challenge 81!

The small graphic for this challenge is below - please visit the Double Trouble Challenge Blog for detailed information.

I love spending time in the outdoors, paddling a canoe or walking through the forest. This card represents that concept fairly well.

I started by creating clouds using a stencil that I made on my Cricut. The mountains were stamped, followed by the trees and then the lake. I stamped one of my favourite sayings at the top of the card. No fuss - just like the outdoors :)

Come and join us at Double Trouble and show us how you interpret this challenge.

You have two weeks to link up your project.

Wreath Builder Cards

The Wreath Builder stamp set has so many possibilities! I recently watched a video by Gina Krupsky (owner of Gin K. Designs) and she showed how to create an S pattern using the Wreath Builder stamps (there are a few in the series). I loved the idea and decided to create two cards in that style.

Each of these wreaths was created using the 3 3/4" template. They will always be square when finished. They were cut diagonally and mounted on a 4" x 5 1/2" black base. A strip of white cardstock was placed between the triangles. The sentiment was stamped and die cut using circle dies. The wreath piece on the first card was also die cut using a stitched square die. I added some Stickles and Liquid Pearls to the first card and coloured some clear sparkles for the second card.

Products used are Close To My Heart unless otherwise indicated:

Paper: White Daisy Cardstock, Black Cardstock, Raspberry Cardstock, Neenah Solar White Cardstock

Stamps: Wreath Builder, Autumn Wreath Builder (both Gina K. Designs)

Inks: Black, Raspberry, Flamingo, Pansy, Green Apple, Clover

Accessories: Wreath Templates (Gina K. Designs), Stitched Circles, Circle Dies (Nestabilities), Stitched Square Dies (GMD), Clear Sparkles, Bitty Sparkles, Silver Liquid Pearls, Tiara Stickles (not CTMH), Sharpie Markers (not CTMH)
