Sunshine and Rainbows

Rainbow cards are always so fun to create and I have posted quite a few of them lately.

The sunshine and rainbows die cut on the front of my card is from Scrapbook and Cards Today - they provide several free downloadable files for use with various cutting machines. I resized the image and used my Cricut to cut it from white cardstock,

The background was created using a variety of Distress Oxide inks. I just blended one into the next to create a rainbow effect - perfect for the die cut words.

Visit Scrapbook and Cards Today - there is a ton of information, tutorials, free cut files, etc. You won't be disappointed!

Double Trouble 80 - Something, Anything, Everything - plus Atlantic Hearts 414

Welcome to Double Trouble Challenge 80 and Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge 414!

It’s the 5th Monday in the month so it’s is a one week challenge at Double Trouble. Thing 1 is anything goes but if you want to play along with Things 2 and 3, the details are below. A full description of the expectations can be found on the Double Trouble Challenge Blog

The sketch for Atlantic Hearts is shown below.

I stayed true to the sketch as I loved the idea of a window. Thing 3 at Double Trouble is to add a stamped or die cut coloured image and those would be the flowers. I stamped, coloured and fussy cut several of the cherry blossoms to use in the planter.

When I created this, my computer was in for service and I could not get my Cricut to work with my other devices. Consequently, I drew and hand cut the window box. The sentiment was stamped in 1st and 2nd generation with Peacock ink. I inked the edges of the wood grain paper, brushed the flowers with the Clear Shimmer Brush and added a few sparkles around the card.

Come and join us at both Double Trouble and Atlantic Hearts and show us how you interpret the expectations for each challenge.

You have until Sunday evening to link up your projects.

We can’t wait to see what you create!

Pink Chevron Card

I have been playing more with the pull-apart stamps from Pink Fresh Studio. This is another card using the chevron stamp.

I inked every second section with light and dark pink Distress Oxide inks. It provided a soft touch for the background. The flowers were stamped and coloured in green and yellow with a touch of pink added to coordinate with the background. I stamped the sentiment in black and split it in half so I could use it on the right side of the card. The edges of the flowers were brushed with the Clear Shimmer Brush.

Products used are Close To My Heart unless otherwise indicated:

Paper: White Daisy Cardstock, Black Cardstock, Neenah Solar White Cardstock

Stamps: Stitched Florals, Greetings Mix 2 (SSS), Nested Chevron (Pink Fresh Sudios)

Try Stampin’ on Tuesday 499 - Multi-Coloured Butterfly

Welcome to Try Stampin’ on Tuesday Challenge 499!

This week, the theme in addition to the sketch is butterflies.

I created the colourful background using alcohol markers and rubbing alcohol. I chose colours that I wanted to use for my butterfly. That piece was mounted on white cardstock and I used a Lagoon pattern for the background. The sentiment was stamped in a close shade of purple and die cut. The butterfly was coloured using similar colours from the background. I added a few purple gems to the card to finish it and also brushed sections of the butterfly with the Clear Shimmer Brush.

Come and join us at TSOT and show us how you interpret the sketch shown above.

You have two weeks to link up your project.

Choose Kindness Floral Card

I saw a card like this on the Rubbernecker Stamp website - and fell in love! Florals are always my favourite images to use and this card was fun to create.

The Daisy Meadows Scrapbooking stamp and thin cut set was a great option to use for this card. I stamped a bunch of images and coloured them all in the same colour scheme. They were all die cut and put aside while I created the center part of the card.

The front of the card was stamped with the Choose Kindness sentiment and then ink splattered using the Charcoal Shimmer Brush. I chose Charcoal as it wasn't as dark as black. The flowers and leaves were adhered all around the edges and I trimmed any pieces that were hanging over the edge. I added some Stickles to the circle sections and brushed the lines of the flowers with the Clear Shimmer Brush. I absolutely love the end result!

Products used are Close To My Heart:

Paper: White Daisy Cardstock, White Cards and Bases

Stamps: Daisy Meadows Scrapbooking, Be the Good

Inks: Intense Black, Archival Black. Willow

Accessories: Daisy Meadows Scrapbooking Thin Cuts, Tri-Blend Markers, Charcoal Shimmer Brush, Clear Shimmer Brush, Diamond Stickles

Angled Ink Card

This card came about after I watched a terrific video by Yana Smakula. It is such a neat technique.

I started with a piece of A2 white cardstock and several ink colours. Stencil pieces (just a square) were placed across the card in various spots to allow the ink to be contained within a specific area. I used a very old stamp to stamp the tree and another retired stamp for the sentiment, The inked piece was trimmed down and adhered to a piece of white cardstock and then mounted on the card base using foam tape. I added a few clear sequins (pulled from the Silver Loose Sequins) in various places around the card.

Products used are Close To My Heart unless otherwise indicated:

Paper: White Daisy Cardstock, Neenah Solar White Cardstock

Stamps: Chelsea Gardens Cardmaking, Always Grateful

Inks: Pansy, Pixie, Canary, Sundance, Lagoon, Glacier, Clover, Green Apple, Black

Accessories: Silver Loose Sequins, Foam Tape

Layered Starbursts

I have been playing with some layered stencils and one is for a slimline card. I did one of these in a rainbow colour scheme (posted earlier) and then decided to try it using just three colours. The colours were selected as shades from a general colour.

The first one is in pink - and I also masked and stamped the sentiment in pink shades. Some Silver Embellishing Thread and Silver Glitter Gems were added to the card.

The second one was created using shades of blue and the sentiment here was also masked to use three different colours. The same embellishments were used on this card.

Products used are Close To My Heart unless otherwise indicated:

Paper: White Daisy Cardstock, Ballerina Cardstock, Bluebird Cardstock

Stamps: Hey, Hi, Hello

Inks: Flamingo, Raspberry, Lagoon, Glacier, Bluebird, DO Inks - Spun Sugar, Kitsch Flamingo, Picked Raspberry, Tumbled Glass, Peacock Feathers, Blueprint Sketch (not all DO inks are CTMH)

Accessories: Stitched Bracket Thin Cuts, Stitched Fancy Bracket Thin Cuts, Stitched Slimline Dies (Pink and Main), Slimline Layered Starburst Stencils (Pink Fresh Studios), Silver Embellishing Thread, Silver Glitter Gems, Foam Tape

Rainbow Flowers

There are so many neat new products out there and one line is a series of cling stamps that are removable within the frame. I used two of them to create the cards below.

All the colour stamping was done using Distress Oxide inks as they provide such a vibrant finished colour. I selected colours of the rainbow and worked in that order. The flowers were stamped, coloured and die cut. I mounted the rainbow pieces as well as the sentiment pieces on black cardstock to bring out the colours. "Beautiful Day" was stamped with four colours to keep with the rainbow theme.

Products used are Close To My Heart unless otherwise indicated:

Paper: White Daisy Cardstock, Black Cardstock, Neenah Solar White Cardstock

Stamps; Stitched Florals, Choose Hope (Pink Fresh Studios), Greetings Mix (SSS), Nested Chevron (Pink Fresh Studios), Nested Diamond (Pink Fresh Studios)

March - April New Product Blog Hop

Welcome to the New Product Blog Hop for the March/April catalog!

There are so many awesome new products in this catalog - the bloggers along the way will show you some terrific ideas that showcase just some of those products.

You should have arrived here from Becca Whitham’s blog. If you get lost along the way, there is a list of all participants on Melinda Everitt's blog

My favourite new product is the Daisy Meadows Scrapbooking stamp and thin cut combo. I used that along with one of the papers from the Daisy Meadows paper pack and a couple of other stamp sets to create this standing wreath card.

The card stands on its own and it folds flat for mailing. I had so many images I wanted to use so my card is larger than 6x6 due to the images that hang over the edge.

The images were all stamped, coloured and die cut before being added around the wreath base. The sentiment was stamped and die cut along with a coordinating background. Once all the images were in place, I used some Liquid Pearls, Stickles and the Gold Shimmer Brush to add some sparkle and shine. The sentiment is mounted on a piece of acetate that runs across the center of the wreath.

I hope you enjoyed my project.

The next blog to visit is Brenda Lapp’s blog. I am sure she has something wonderful to share with you!

Products used are Close To My Heart unless otherwise indicated:

Paper: Daisy Meadows Paper Pack, White Daisy Cardstock, Peacock Cardstock, Acetate (not CTMH)

Stamps: Daisy Meadows Scrapbooking, Florals and Flutters, Sunny Days Ahead

Inks: Intense Black

Accessories: Daisy Meadows Thin Cuts, Florals and Flutters Thin Cuts, Stitched Bracket Thin Cuts, Tri-Blend Markers, Gold Shimmer Brush, Goldenrod Stickles, Onyx Pearl Liquid Pearls, Sundance Shimmer Brush

AH 412 - Kind Soul Wreath

Welcome to Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #412!

This week, the sketch looks very basic - keep in mind that the bow image can be anything you desire.

I wanted to use woodgrain paper as my base and I chose a light pattern for that purpose. The wreath and flowers were all die cut and adhered together. I used a piece of purple glitter paper for the cross piece and also backed the sentiment with that same paper. A few sparkles were coloured and added to the centres of the flowers and I also brushed the raised sections of the flowers with the Clear Shimmer Brush.

Come and join us at Atlantic Hearts and show us how you interpret the sketch shown above.

You have until Sunday evening to link up your project.

We can’t wait to see what you create!

Collage Interlocking Cards

I love interactive cards and I have created this type of card in the past. It is a very wide card when it is completely opened. A tutorial for this type of card can be found here

These two cards were created using different paper packs. I also altered the word inside. One reads BIRTHDAY (Happy is on the front) and the other reads THANKFUL ("for you" is under the last square).

Some images were stamped and others were coloured. The letters were all cut from glitter paper.

Paper: Daisy Meadows Paper Pack, Sweet Girl Paper Pack, White Daisy Cardstock, Peach Cardstock, Peacock Cardstock, Sapphire Cardstock, Heather Cardstock, Fern Cardstock, Teal Glitter Paper, Sapphire Glitter Paper

Double Trouble 79 - Gnome in Green

Welcome to Double Trouble Challenge 79!

This week, it's all about magical things - unicorns, gnomes, fairies, etc. The extra twist is to use a die. The small graphic is below. Please visit the Double Trouble website for additional information.

This card was created as I was making a pile of cards using Close To My Heart's Floral Layering Dies. They are a set of three dies that create a gorgeous background - the colour combinations are endless. For this card, I used Clover cardstock for the base and the layers are dusty purple glitter paper, Willow cardstock and finally an inked layer on top that was created using Distress Oxide inks.

The gnome was stamped, coloured and die cut and mounted with thin foam tape. I wanted the background to be very open so I didn't add anything other than a sentiment.

Come and join us at Double Trouble and show us how you interpret this week's challenge.

I am also linking up my project with the Dies R Us challenge

You have two weeks to link up your project.

H2H - The Midas Touch (Gold)

Welcome to this week's Heart 2 Heart challenge.

The theme for this challenge is The Midas Touch. We are asking you to use gold in your project.

I finally pulled out my Geometric Grid Thin Cuts and used the diagonal one (there are two in the set). I cut that piece from gold glitter paper and then I cut away a few of the sections. I used three Distress Oxide inks to create the background and I also splattered that piece with water. The sentiment was embossed in gold in the centre section and the four corner squares became mini shakers.

Come and join us at Heart 2 Heart and show us how you interpret The Midas Touch.

You have until the end of March to link up your project.

Colour Dare 435 - Just Because...

Welcome to Colour Dare Challenge #435!

St. Patrick's Day is coming up so the colour theme this week is greens with one other colour. Neutrals are free to use.

I have been playing around with my Spectrum Noir Tri-Blend markers and the background of this card was created by colouring in sections on vellum and then painting over the vellum with rubbing alcohol. It creates such a cool background. I used dark pink (not purple), dark green and medium grey for this background.

The coloured background was mounted on a piece of Mint cardstock and I used the light side of Evergreen cardstock to die cut the stitched borders. That same Mint cardstock was used as the cross piece. I stamped a floral cluster, coloured and fussy cut it. The sentiment was stamped at the bottom of the cross piece and a few purple gems were added. I brushed the centre sections of each flower with the Clear Shimmer Brush.

Come and join us at Colour Dare and show us how you interpret the colour theme shown above.

You have two weeks to link up your project.

We can’t wait to see what you you create!

In This Together Blog Hop

Welcome to the In This Together blog hop!

The Makers on this blog hop will be showing different projects using products from the In This Together collection.

You should have arrived here from Daryls Recker's blog. If you get lost, a list of all participants can be found on Melinda Everitt's blog

Both of these cards are side step cards. The first uses some of the papers, stickers and stamped images from the In This Together collection.

The circles on the right side were cut using my Cricut. I stamped and coloured the sofa and the We Got This image and used stickers for the remaining images. I purposely kept the card simple to focus on the papers.

Lemonade and Grape go so well together... For this card, I stamped several images from the gnome set, including some plants, a shovel, a watering can and the gnome himself. Clover cardstock was used to create the grass. The Lemonade striped paper was a perfect background for the front of the card and the heart pattern worked for the back. I brushed the flower petals with the Clear Shimmer Brush and added a few sparkles around the front.

I hope you enjoyed my projects.

The next stop on this hop is Gina Brandstetter's blog. I am sure she will share something awesome with you!

Products used are all Close To My Heart:

Paper: In This Together Paper Pack and Sticker Sheet, White Daisy Cardstock, Grape Cardstock, Clover Cardstock, Nectarine Cardstock

Stamps: In This Together, Garden Gnomes

Inks: Intense Black, Sapphire

Accessories: Art Philosophy Cricut Collection, Garden Gnomes Thin Cuts, Tri-Blend Markers, Clear Sparkles, Bitty Sparkles, Clear Shimmer Brush, In This Together Dots

Starburst Slimline Card

Layering stencils are a great way to create a background that would be impossible to do otherwise. For this card, I used a set of slimline layering stencils that create a starburst. There are three stencils and the white spaces are intended to be there - it makes the starburst look more natural.

I used a wide variety of Distress Oxide inks to do this - and it took a long time and much patience. I didn't have three shades of some colours so I had to improvise the best I could.

The sentiment was masked and stamped in two colours. I also added some flowers at the bottom to fill in the blank space on the sentiment piece. That was mounted with foam tape and I also brushed the flowers with the Clear Shimmer Brush. I chose a colour that was within the starburst (Clover) to mat the sentiment and the entire card front. The starburst was die cut using a stitched slimline die. I added a few gold sequins to finish off the card.

Products used are Close To My Heart unless otherwise indicated:

Paper: White Daisy Cardstock, Clover Cardstock

Stamps: Hey, Hi, Hello and Cherry Blossoms

Inks: Grape, Nectarine, Intense Black, DO inks: Spun Sugar, Kitsch Flamingo, Picked Raspberry, Abandoned Coral, Festive Berries, Candied Apple, Fired Brick, Spiced Marmalade, Mustard Seed, Squeezed Lemonade, Shaded Lilac, Wilted Violet, Seedless Preserves, Mowed Lawn, Evergreen Bough, Lucky Clover, Pine Needles, Tumbled Glass, Peacock Feathers, Blueprint Sketch

Accessories: Stitched Fancy Brackets Thin Cuts, Stitched Slimline Dies (Pink and Main), Slimline Layering Starburst Stencils (Pink Fresh Studios), Tri-Blend Markers, Loose Gold Sequins, Clear Shimmer Brush, Gunmetal Stickles (not CTMH), Foam Tape

TSOT 497 - Eclipse Birthday Card

Welcome to Try Stampin' on Tuesday Challenge 497!

This week you have a choice - use either the technique or the sketch - or you can always do both if you want!

I chose to use the technique this week - the large sentiment. I figured it would work well with an eclipse card.

The letters B-DAY were cut from the white card front and then inserted back into the cuts so the stamping and colouring could be done. After that was complete, the main letter pieces were removed and the card front plus any sections from inside letters were adhered to a piece of black cardstock. The actual letters were placed on foam tape and then added back to the card front. The black cardstock was mounted on Willow cardstock and finally on to a piece of Wisteria cardstock. I added a few black gems to finish off the card.

Come and join us at TSOT and show us how you interpret either the sketch or the technique - or both!

You have two weeks to link up your project.

We can’t wait to see what you create!

Products used are all Close To My Heart:

Paper: White Daisy Cardstock, Wisteria Cardstock, Willow Cardstock, Black Cardstock

Stamps: Celebrating You, Happiness Never Grows Old

Inks: Intense Black

Accessories: Black Alphabet Thin Cuts, Black and White Gems, Tri-Blend Markers, Foam Tape

Rainbow Colour Cards

I usually create cards that are fairly detailed but now and then, a good clean and simple card is a great option. These cards are all based on the rainbow colour palette and they are purposely clean and simple. All these ideas were found on Pinterest.

The first uses the Stitched Square Thin Cuts and the smallest square was cut from several colours of cardstock. The pieces were trimmed and arranged in rainbow order on black cardstock. Two pieces of white cardstock were adhered on top, allowing a V formation to open toward the side. I didn't have any "colourful" sentiments so this one worked for the purpose.

The second card uses die cut hearts that are arranged together along the bottom. The sentiment was die cut in black and added above the hearts.

The last card uses the Stitched Hexagon Thin Cuts. I played with the arrangement of these hexagons for a long time - they run from left to right in the rainbow colour scheme. The sentiment was die cut and added just above the center.

Products used are Close To My Heart unless otherwise indicated:

Paper: Cardstock: White Daisy, Black, Bluebird, Carolina, Lagoon, Clover, Green Apple, Lemonade, Nectarine, Candy Apple, Flamingo, Raspberry, Lilac, Grape, Blue Belle, Sapphire, Smoothie, Wisteria, Peacock, Evergreen, Neenah Solar White Cardstock, White Card and Envelopes

Inks: Archival Black

Accessories: Stitched Square Thin Cuts, Florals and Flutters Thin Cuts, Stitched Hexagon Thin Cuts, Hugs Die (Pink Fresh Studios), Hello Thin Cut, In This Together Dots, Holly Jolly Dots, Craft Foam (not CTMH)
