Art Journal Pages

 Art journaling is a creative style that is still so new to me and I honestly don't feel like I am "getting it". Every page sits before me and I have no idea where to begin. I used products from 49 and Market from their teal collection to complete my first book and these last four layouts now represent finished book. Previous layouts have already been posted. I suppose it'a a decent first try, right? 

I tried to use some mixed media on each of the layouts - pastes, splattering, creating backgrounds using inked stencils, etc. Each is a bit different but I used these pages to add quotes that means something to me.

Enjoy the Little Things

 I continue to pull out my art journal to add pages with sentiments that I really like. This one was pretty easy - a piece of text paper with some die cut shapes for the ombre stamped sentiment, fabric tape, a fussy cut border for the bottom and a few rub ons to finish it off. I need to get inky with this again but I need some 60 hour days to make that happen!

Art Journaling

 I have slowly been working away in my art journal - my idea is to use each of the pages to demonstrate a sentiment or phase that I really like.

I purchased some paper by 49 and Market along with additional embellishments and I used that for the first two spreads. There are some acetate pieces, fabric tape and rub-ons along with some spattering of Distress Oxide sprays and paints. 

For the last spread, I did something different. Honestly, I'm not happy with this but it's part of the learning process. 

A few years ago, The Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu wrote a book after spending some time together, discussing elements of life, They decided upon the 8 Pillars of Life - qualities that are important to live a fulfilling life. I love these and I try hard to practice them in my own life. 

I painted twelve squares with two colours of ink and doodled around each of them. Inside eight of them, I wrote one quality. As an afterthought, I added a bit of additional information underneath each word. I simply doodled on the remaining two spots.

Art Journal - Title Page

 I purposely waited to do the title page for my art journal because I wanted to use the sentiment that is shown here. I struggle with my self-confidence and erase the doubt is a phrase I often say to myself.

The background was painted using a mixture of three ink colours and water. The beautiful flowers on the left side are from 49 and Market's fabric tape and I used some acetate images and rub-ons around the page. Simple overall - I need to practice more with just letting it happen!

Art Journal

 I have several friends who do art journaling and it is something I have wanted to do for a while - honestly, I had NO IDEA where to begin. 

I watched a few videos designed for beginners. I understand that it is more a place to do anything and everything without a definitive guide and that is extremely difficult for me. I like organization whether that comes from a sketch, a given theme, a specific design and colours, etc. "Winging it" stresses me out something awful. It's like using a lot of mixed media on a project - I don't know how it will turn out and I have a hard time not being able to control that!

So here is my first foray into this new form of art. Much of was still controlled - that's just me. I ink blended a double page panel and splattered it with water. I used a stencil and gold paste to add some colour to the two corner areas. The flowers were fussy cut and added and I used a text stamp to stamp randomly (as random as I could manage) over the flowers, although I missed sections. I stamped a sentiment to cover some of the empty space and then splattered the entire page with black paint. Do I like it? Kind of... I realize I have to be able to let go for this process.
