DT 166 - Hello Layered Card

 Welcome to Double Trouble Challenge 166!

We are pairing with Tuesday Morning Sketches for this challenge. Their sketch is shown below. 

Surprisingly, I have almost nothing in my craft stash that hasn't been used. The mismatched paper idea was totally unappealing to me so I found some papers that I had purchased a while ago and never got around to using. The paper pack that I chose was initially available in three colours (black, toffee and mink) and I purchased it in black and mink. I have used much of the black but hadn't cracked open the mink set as it's definitely not a favourite colour of mine. 

For this challenge, I paired the papers in that pack with teal. I chose four mink patterns and adhered them to mink cardstock. They were arranged as per the sketch on teal cardstock (also matted wth mink cardstock). I heat embossed some flower and leaf images using mink ink and coloured them. The sentiment was added to the front and I tied a bow around the front piece of cardstock before adding some turquoise gems around the card.

DT 154 - Merry Christmas

We are pairing with Tuesday Morning Sketches. This is the sketch for their challenge.

I rotated the sketch ninety degrees. I chose some red and green Christmas papers and matted each of them with dark red cardstock. The oval and the oval border were both die cut with a stitched oval die. I stamped a bunch of snowflakes on the front piece and adhered a hot foiled sentiment across the centre. A few gold gems were added around the oval.

DT 135 - You are my Rainbow

 Welcome to Double Trouble Challenge 135!

This week, it's all about rainbows! We are also pairing with Tuesday Morning Sketches to use their sketch. The basic details are below - please visit the Double Trouble Challenge Blog for more information. 

I wasn't sure what to do with this challenge - I love rainbows but the sketch made it hard to do what I initially had in mind. I decided to stencil rainbow clouds on four panels of white cardstock. I adhered them to a black panel and then to the white card base. The sentiment was stamped with four shades of ink and die cut, along with a black border. No embellishments were added to my card.

Serenity Book Card

I will be so sorry to see the Serenity paper collection retire at the end of December. This collection has become one of my all-time favourites.

This is a book card - it opens to look very much like a book. I stayed with the blue and gold theme in the Serenity collection as it worked perfectly for what I wanted. 

The wreath on the front actually has little sections that are raised. The wreath shape was die cut and then stamped in three colours and adhered to a solid colour on the back. A glitter bow was also die cut and added to the wreath after the leaves were lifted. 

Inside there are two layers on top of the cardstock base along the sides - some Blue Belle glitter paper and then the patterned flowers. The main panels were stamped and coloured and sections of the flowers were brushed with the Gold Shimmer Brush. I stamped some images on the back panel where the message will be written to the recipient. No embellishments were added to this card as it is already thick on the inside.

Double Accordion Display Card

Now that my Christmas cards are all done, I have some time to play! My favourite types of cards are those that are interactive or multi-panel cards and this is another one. 

This accordion display card was created using the Every Little Thing paper collection. The card itself isn't difficult to create but it's all the little squares and rectangles with mats that take a long time to cut. I also did a lot of colouring on this card and that alone is a time consuming task. A video that shows how to create this card can be found here. 

There is a belly band that goes around the card to hold it together. The closed size is 6" x 6" but when it is open, it spreads apart to measure 20" long! 

I started with a black base and used Wisteria and Julep cardstock as the other cardstock colours. Many of the Every Little Thing floral images are partially coloured so I filled in most of those and stamped and coloured the main page. The back panel was splattered with the Mint Shimmer Brush and coordinating images were stamped and coloured. A zip strip from the paper pack was added along the sides and across the belly band. The front panels were embossed before I added the belly band and the fussy cut image.

Criss-Cross Card with a Daisy

Staying at home has provided me some extra time to create and I am loving that! I saw the sketch over at Tuesday Morning Sketches (#552) and decided to create a card to enter the challenge. Here is the sketch...

I chose to create a criss-cross card - one end flips over the other to create a pocket. I used the Blue Skies patterned paper from Close To My Heart - it has such bold and vibrant colours. 

The daisy on the front was Cricut cut along with the leaves (which are a little hard to see in the photo). The inner card was stamped and the outline was masked and stamped. Three stitched hearts in coordinating colours were added. I brushed the centre of the daisy with the Clear Shimmer Brush and also did the centres of the flowers on the patterned paper. A coordinating ribbon was added at the top of the inner piece to allow it to be easily removed.

Glitter Friend Card

With some extra time on my hands today, I decided to create a card for the challenge at Tuesday Morning Sketches. It has been a LONG time since I have submitted a card to this challenge but I do follow their sketches each week. 

Colouring flowers red is always a challenge because they often end up looking like they belong on Christmas cards... I wanted to do something that wouldn't be like that so that was my challenge to myself as I worked on this card. I chose a background that was glittery but not a Christmas pattern. I had a hard time deciding on the flourishes - nothing seemed to work (either too big or too small). I really didn't want to resort to my Cricut but it ended up being the best option. The paper between the front and the cardstock base is vellum. I did cut the front piece with a stitched die but it is very hard to see in the photograph. 

I am not an expert in colouring by any means - I am a mere beginner and am self-taught. Anything I have learned has been from the few videos I have watched. I really need a lot of help in this area :) 

Check out the glitter on the background piece of this card! It's hard to see in the large photograph.
