DD May - Music Note Card

Welcome to Dragonfly Dreams and our May challenge!

The theme for this challenge is to use die cuts.

I recently purchased a set of music dies and I always make thank you cards for the choir director and accompanist at my church as they work so hard!

I stamped a music note background and adhered that to the black mat on the card base. I die cut a circle from the front panel and then embossed it with a burlap embossing folder. I cut a second circle to fit inside the larger one to add some interest. The music pieces were stacked to add some strength and adhered across the open circle. The sentiment was also die cut and added at the bottom.

DD April - Hello Friend

Welcome to Dragonfly Dreams and our April challenge!

The theme for this challenge is clean and simple (CAS).

I made a card using a design that I really love. A piece of patterned paper was adhered to the card base and I fussy cut white cardstock on an angle and then trimmed the lower piece to leave an opening on the card front. The sentiment was stamped on the same angle as the opening and a white die cut floral image was placed across both panels. I added a small gold bow to the base of the flowers.

DD March - Stream of Butterflies

Welcome to Dragonfly Dreams and our March challenge!

The theme for this challenge is butterflies.

This card was a labour of love! I die cut the butterfly outline from gold foil and then proceeded to inlay every little piece of those butterflies using various colours of cardstock. Once that was finished, I embossed the sentiment and drew dots with a white gel pen around some of the butterflies. The card front was adhered to a gold foil card base.

DD February - Hello Fun Fold Card

Welcome to Dragonfly Dreams and our February challenge!

The theme for this challenge is shaped cards or fun fold cards.

I love fun folds - they are my favourite kind of cards to make. This is a style I have made a few times but it creates so much of an impact when it is opened.

I chose a black, white and turquoise colour scheme. The papers were layered and the base of the card was assembled. I die cut two large flowers and a bunch of greenery from white cardstock and inked the pieces. They were splattered with water and assembled. I placed the flowers in the opposite corners with appropriate greenery. The sentiment was originally silver glitter paper on vellum but it didn't show up very well so I cut another piece from turquoise cardstock and offset it on top of the glitter word. The cards fold flat to 6x6 for mailing and there is a place on the back to write a message.

DD - You're in My Heart

Welcome to Dragonfly Dreams and our January challenge!

The theme for this challenge is florals.

I chose a large image that I foiled in silver and then used stencils to colour. I fussy cut the image and placed it on a detailed die cut background placed over green cardstock. I added a stitched frame around the edge and placed a sentiment in the lower corner. Gems were added to open sections on the background.

DD December - Thinking of You Card with Tag

Welcome to Dragonfly Dreams and our December challenge!

The theme for this challenge is to create a tag or a card with a tag.

I created a card with a tag that slips inside the front of the card. I used a floral pattern for the background of the card and coordinating paper to die cut the angled frame. I added a scalloped border and a stitched border to the angled piece. The tag was die cut from two arch dies and I lightly inked the edges of the white piece and added white twine at the top. The sentiment was stamped, die cut and added at the bottom and some coordinating gems were placed around the sentiment.

DD - Birthday Roses

Welcome to Dragonfly Dreams and our November challenge!

The theme for this challenge is feminine.

I used a layering stamp to create the roses and leaves. The background was stencilled with a white Solar Paste on white cardstock, leaving a gorgeous shimmery look. The roses were arranged on the front panel and a stamped sentiment was placed across the bottom. The card front was adhered to a grey mat and a green card base. I added some clear gems on the flowers.

DD October - Plant Window Card

Welcome to Dragonfly Dreams and our October challenge!

The theme for this challenge is to make a shaped card.

I make a lot of oval shaped cards so I wanted to try something different. A window die was just what I was looking for! I die cut the window piece twice and on the front window, I placed each of the pots with plants. A sun was also added in the top corner. I placed a piece of acetate behind that window and added a second die cut frame on the back.

The back panel was stencilled with a cloud stencil and I cut a second piece to go on the back for a place to write a message. The sentiment was placed across the bottom of the window.

DD Sept - Birthday Flowers

Welcome to Dragonfly Dreams and our September challenge!

The theme for this challenge is Happy Birthday.

I made a fairly simple birthday card. The background was lightly ink blended around the edges and I placed three dotted squares on the left side. The daisy image was die cut from white, yellow and green cardstock and I pieced the cut outs into the white outline. Happy was stamped and birthday was die cut x2 and stacked on vellum. A blue gem was placed in the centre of each daisy and I brushed the coloured pieces with a clear shimmer brush. The card front was adhered to a white card base with craft foam.

DD August - Circle of Peonies

Welcome to Dragonfly Dreams and our August challenge!

The theme for this challenge is to use lots of layers.

I love creating floral cards and this was a good opportunity for that. The card base was lightly inked with coral ink and I added a die cut lace background on top. The stitched frame was stacked four times and the stencilled peonies were arranged around a double die cut circle with the sentiment in the centre. That makes eight layers. I added some iridescent gems around the card to finish it off.

DD July - Hexagon Birthday Card

Welcome to Dragonfly Dreams and our July challenge.

The theme for this challenge is to use polygons. A polygon is a closed shape with at least three sides, all of which are straight.

I chose a hexagon shape.

The background for my card was created using a hexagon die. I had to cut 20 of each layer (5 colours) and assemble each of them. Once they were together, I arranged them on white cardstock and cut away the pieces hanging over the edge. That piece was adhered to a white card base with craft foam. I die cut a birthday sentiment with a vellum shadow and placed that across the front. Some iridescent gems were added to the card.

Dragonfly Dreams June - Reason to Smile

Welcome to Dragonfly Dreams and our June challenge!

The theme for this challenge is to use one or more butterflies.

The background was embossed with a 3D leafy embossing folder and I tore a strip of turquoise paper and placed it a little off centre. The butterflies were stamped, stencilled and die cut. They were placed along the edge of the torn piece with foam tape. I stamped and die cut the sentiment and stacked that piece to fit over the butterfly. Some clear gems were added around the card and I used silver Stickles on the dots on the butterflies.

DD May - Fintastic Friend

Welcome to Dragonfly Dreams and our May challenge!

The theme for this challenge is sea life.

I recently acquired an adorable stamp and die set from Lawn Fawn and it was perfect for this challenge!

I stencilled the waves at the top using Distress Oxide inks and then splattered that piece with water. The sea life images were stamped, coloured and die cut and I arranged them into what I pictured as an underwater ocean scene. The sentiment was added at the bottom. I stamped some smaller sentiments inside the bubble and above one of the starfish. The entire card front was adhered to an orange card base as it brought out the shrimp images a little more.

DD April - Trio of Toads

Welcome to Dragonfly Dreams and our April challenge!

The theme for this challenge is animals.

I chose to use toads - usually not a beautiful animal but these ones are truly cute!

I ink blended a blue background with Distress Oxide inks and splattered it with a mix of water and Perfect Pearls to create some shine. The toad images were die cut and assembled. I added them to light blue cardstock behind each of the windows. The sentiments were heat embossed in white and added between the circles. The card front was adhered to a white mat and then a dark blue card base.

DD February - You are Loved Roses

Welcome to Dragonfly Dreams and our February challenge!

The theme for this month is clean and simple (CAS).

I love single layer cards but always have a hard time stopping myself from adding more and more! For this card, I die cut a circle from masking paper and used the negative space. I ink blended a circle using light turquoise and purple ink. The mask was removed and I stamped a rose image so the top of the image was inside the circle. A simple sentiment was stamped in the lower corner. Nothing else was added to this card.

DD Jan Challenge - CAS Striped Card

Welcome to Dragonfly Dreams and our January challenge!

The theme this month is to use pink and purple.

I went with a clean and simple card. I chose four pink and purple patterned papers from my stash and cut them into 1/2" strips. I cut a card front on a diagonal and adhered the strips to the back and stamped a sentiment on the front. The card front was trimmed to size and adhered to a white card base with foam tape.

DD December Challenge - Good Tidings Split Card

Welcome to Dragonfly Dreams and our December challenge!

The theme (no surprise) is Christmas.

I have seen variations of this card several times. It looks so easy but it is a little deceiving.

The border piece was die cut from gold foil and I die cut a second piece of white cardstock and embossed that with a holly embossing folder. The sentiment was arranged on the curve and embossed with gold. All the little branches and flowers were arranged under the border. The centres of the flowers are actually tiny die cuts so I didn't add anything else to this card.

DD November - Snowflake Spinner

Welcome to the November challenge for Dragonfly Dreams!

The theme this month is winter birthday.

Snowflakes always work for winter cards so I chose that route.

A piece of snowflake vellum was adhered to blue cardstock and the circle was die cut from the card front. I created a snowflake spinner element and added dark blue cardstock on the inside panel. Silver gems were placed in the centres of the snowflakes and I added a birthday sentiment at the bottom.

DD - Peace and Joy Tag

Welcome to Dragonfly Dreams and our October challenge!

The theme for this challenge is anything except a card.

I chose to make a tag. The size of the tag was determined by the church image I wanted to use. The tag was manually cut and I stencilled the backgound with a cloud stencil. The church and related images were all die cut and assembled. That was adhered on top of a white glitter "snow" base and I added a hot foiled sentiment at the top and used a gold ribbon inside the hole.

DD Sept - Boots in Window

Welcome to the September challenge for Dragonfly Dreams!

The theme this month is birthdays.

I wanted to try a card similar to one I saw on Pinterest and this is the result. The background was embossed and I dragged a grey ink pad over the top to add interest. The window was die cut and I added yellow cardstock and vellum behind the openings. The boots were stamped, coloured and fussy cut and I placed several flower and leaf die cuts so they are coming out of the pair of boots. A hot foiled birthday sentiment was placed at the bottom of the window.
